Supporting Sustainable Business

Connecting people, investment and opportunities for district growth.

At Venture Timaru, we connect people, investment and opportunity to support a strong, resilient and futurefocused district economy.

TAs Timaru District’s economic development and tourism agency, we work to build on our region’s strengths, encourage innovation and help create the conditions for sustainable growth.

We attract new business and investment that complements our local advantages, while supporting existing businesses to grow capability, improve productivity and seize new opportunities. We also help bring together partners, investors and industry to advance the infrastructure and economic enablers needed for long-term district success.

Through tourism development, destination marketing, storytelling and visitor experience growth, we help position Timaru District as a place people want to visit, live, work and invest.

We are focused on achieving outcomes that strengthen the districts economy and enhance long -term prosperity.

Collaboration is at the heart of our efforts.

Strong economies and destinations are built on strong relationships. Every month, our economic development and tourism teams work alongside businesses, industry leaders, investors, tourism operators, infrastructure providers and government partners to identify opportunities, address challenges and support sustainable growth across the Timaru District.

Our role is to connect people, ideas and investment. By fostering collaboration between local businesses and key stakeholders, including Timaru District Council, PrimePort, Alpine Energy and regional partners, we help create the conditions that enable businesses and industries to grow, innovate and succeed.

We support both established businesses and emerging enterprises by facilitating strategic connections, sharing knowledge, building capability and advocating for investment in the infrastructure and services that strengthen productivity, enhance visitor experiences and unlock future opportunities.

By connecting industry, tourism and community partners, we help showcase the district as a place to live, work, visit and invest. Through collaboration, connection and advocacy, we are helping build a resilient, futurefocused district that supports business success, attracts opportunity and delivers lasting benefits for our communities.

Business Connection Groups

We ensure businesses have a voice in shaping the future of their sectors.

Our Business Connection Groups provide a platform for industry-led collaboration, ensuring businesses have a voice in shaping the future of their sectors. Through knowledge sharing, stronger networks and strategic alignment, these groups help identify opportunities, inform priorities and support investment that benefits both industry and the wider district.

From driving productivity and innovation in food production to positioning South Canterbury within New Zealand’s growing aerospace sector, SPACE FOR TOURISM GROUP

these groups help businesses respond to change, build resilience and seize emerging opportunities.

By taking a coordinated, sector-wide approach, we are helping create a stronger, more connected economy that is well positioned to attract investment, support business growth and deliver long-term benefits for the Timaru District.

Our team & the year ahead.

We’re focused on delivering measurable outcomes that enable a vibrant and thriving Timaru District.

Each year, Venture Timaru sets its priorities and workplans through its Statement of Intent. This document outlines what we will focus on in 2026/27, the activities we will deliver, and the performance measures we will use to track progress.

As a Council-controlled organisation, Venture Timaru is accountable through the Timaru District Council to our community and its ratepayers.

For the year ahead, our work will focus on four core priorities: attracting new businesses, supporting existing businesses to grow and innovate, promoting Timaru District as a great place to visit, live and work, and advocating for investment in the infrastructure and opportunities that support long-term district growth.

Through this Statement of Intent, we are setting a clear direction for the year ahead and a transparent way for our community to see how we are delivering value.
